Federico Guercilena
Since January 2014 I am a Ph.D. student in the relativistc astrophysics/numerical relativity group of prof. Luciano Rezzolla at the Institut für Theoretische Physik, Goethe-Universität, in Frankfurt, Germany.
Research interests
My main topic of research are numerical methods for the solution of hyperbolic evolution equations. The solution of Einstein equations, coupled with equations for matter fields such as hydrodynamics equations requires extremely accurate and computationally efficient methods in order to provide useful results. I am particularly interested in discontinuous Galerkin methods (DG) and their optimal implementation into the Einstein Toolkit framework. A related topic in my research is the development of stabilization techniques, such as artificial viscosity and in particular entropy viscosity.
I’m also interested in the development and analysis of formulations of the Einsten equations and associated gauge choices suitable for numerical integration.
My other research interests regard the properties of vacuum spacetimes (i.e BH spacetimes), such as the comparison of post-Newtonian semi analytic methods to full general relativistic simulations.
